living with what remains
A collection of poems

living with what remains “A lovely, moving, wise collection. With keen and loving attention to the lush complexities of the natural scene, with genuine concern for its every denizen, Judith Deem Dupree walks with eyes wide open, offering both words of praise and of consolation for all, sharing the wisdom that ‘what remains’ also sustains.”

Scott Cairns’s latest volume is Philokalia: New & Selected Poems . He teaches classes and seminars in poetry and literature at the University of Missouri-Columbia, and is series editor of the Vassar Miller Prize in Poetry. Scott has been widely published in journals in journals and anthologies, including Best of Prairie Schooner (UN, 2001), and The The Pushcart Prize XXVI, 2002.

“These poems invite us into the mystery and immensity of our lives. With graceful cadence and vivid language, Dupree names our hungers and our feasts, recognizing, with her compelling sense of attention, the presence of God everywhere. Her poems are like the blossoms which spill ‘down the earthen jar/ . . . the way the soul arcs around/our shaped theology/searching for that unseen radius/where Glory spills --/as indefinable, as prescribed/as honeyed as the aura of delphinium.’

Jean Janzen is the author of five collections of poetry, and her work is frequently published in literary and religious magazines. She is the recipient of a National Endowment for the Arts award, and has taught poetry at Fresno Pacific University and Eastern Mennonite University.

“I highly recommend this small collection of uncommon, penetrating poems. There are some quite extraordinary pieces in here. Judith Deem Dupree is a talented contemplative poet and verbal mapmaker of the natural world and spiritual imagination. Her work radiates inner mystery, is scrupulously intelligent, sometimes funny, and deeply human. Judith shows the way back to ‘our soul’s small residence.’”

Leonard G. Goss is a publisher and book editor with Broadman & Holman Publishers, Nashville, TN. He is also a writer and speaker, and the co-author, most recently, of “The Little Style Guide.”
